My work portrays working class men and women of various communities in their own neighbourhoods and their daily environments. These site-specific paintings, in acrylic,
are created.

K P Abdulmajeed

Born and brought up in Kochangadi, Majeed worked as a loading unloading worker since the age of 20. Though he has been living in Ambalamugal for the past 12 years, he travels to Mattancherry every morning and still maintains his Kochangadi address. He is currently the F A pool leader at the Cochin Port Labour Union. He is 59 years old.

A A Jabbar

Jabbar has been a head load worker in and around Mattancherry Jew Town for the last 42 years. He is a member of the Cochin Port Workers Union. He lives in Kappalandimukk in Mattancherry.

M H Babu

Babu used to go fishing in the sea in a canoe. he was a head load worker at Willington Island but now works as a security for Kochi Metro Rail. Studied till the seventh standard. He is 38 years old and lives in Pullupalam, Fort Kochi.

Mani chechi has been a sweeper at the Cochin Corporation for the last 35 years. 60 years old and retires in September 2017. She works part-time at the shop she jointly runs with four women from her neighbourhood. Widowed. She lives with her three children and in-laws at Kiliyamapadam.

P Sivakumar

36 years old. Unmarried. He has been screen- printing on sacks for Jagannath Corporation in Mattacherry for 20 years. Studied till fourth standard. He cannot speak or hear since birth. Lives in Amaravathi, Fort Kochi.

P Suresh

Lovingly called Suri. After completing his SSLC he has been washing clothes for over 36 years. Unmarried. Suri is a descendent of the dhobi community brought to Veli, Fort Kochi from Tamil Nadu in 1720 by the Dutch.

Jalaja has completed M.F.A. & B.F.A. in painting in 2007 & 2009 resp. from Govt. RLV College Thripunithura, Kochi. Her solo shows include: Dissonant Image, three solos, Gallery Exhibit 320, Lado Sarai, New Delhi (2016) and FACE IT: HERSTORY, curatorial consultant Bose Krishnamachari, Kashi Art Gallery Cochin, Kerala (2014). She has participated in a number of group shows in India and abroad. She has also participated in Biennale Arte Dolomiti, Cibiana di Cadore, Italy (2016), Kochi Muziris Biennale 2012, Art Gwangju 2010, Special Exhibition Section, EAA (Emerging Asian Artists), South Korea.
