UPENDRANATH T R

Born. 1969. Lives and works in Kochi.

Even as a place that carries the past in its architectural character, and colonialism is present in manners proximate as well as remote, Mattancherry for me is an energy source or spirit that has outlasted the forces of tourism and urbanisation. Mine is a humble attempt from within our social and political present to understand this place. This may be the beginning of a journey. Man and women are occupied in the toil of survival. I attempt to understand the soul of Mattancherry from within this uncertainty.

There is an architecture worldwide of humans who have been pushed to the margins. This is experienced as a meta-narrative and invite us to consider the outstanding problems facing humankind today.
